VERMONT - Bringing an Old Fashioned
Holiday to the Nation

Vermont

Ornament Campaign

This year Vermont selected the theme: Bringing an Old Fashioned Holiday to the Nation. Therefore our ornaments reflected the spirit of an old fashioned New England Christmas. Our community members, artists and school children were invited to design and produce a variety of ornaments to send down with the tree and the companion trees. In addition, statewide businesses supplied templates from which the ornaments were created.

A winning ornament was selected in both the "student" and "artist/community member" categories. The winners received roundtrip tickets from Albany to Baltimore (DC) to attend the Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in early December. Southwest Airlines graciously provided the following roundtrip tickets awarded to the winning "student" ornament maker (and 2 guests), along with that winning student's teacher (and a guest). Additionally, Southwest Airlines provided 2 roundtrip tickets for the winning local artist or community member (and a guest).

This whole project was a major undertaking and we would like to thank the students, community, contributing artists all of the local volunteers and especially Southwest Airlines for making this project even more special for our community.

The Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce in Bennington, Vermont has produced an official logo ornament which are offered for sale to the public. We incorporated cookie cutters, wood products, slate and other Vermont icons into the project.
